NOMINATION GUIDELINES FOR AWARD III: COLLEGIATE TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

ELIGIBILITY

The recipient must be a current member of NBEA/SBEA and have been a member for a minimum of three years; must be a member of the respective business education state association; and must be teaching in business education at the collegiate (senior college/university) level.  The recipient’s contributions may have been made over an extended period of time; however, the major impact must have occurred within three years prior to the nomination.

NOMINATION GUIDELINES

Nominations may be made by an NBEA/SBEA member or by the Executive Boards of affiliated state associations.  Nominations must be on the SBEA Nomination Form.  The SBEA Nomination Form is to be sent to the chairman of the SBEA Leadership Awards Administrative Committee.  The chairman will send the SBEA Nomination Form and guidelines to the nominee.  Each nominee will submit the materials detailed below to the chairman of the SBEA Leadership Awards Administrative Committee.

  1. The first page of the materials submitted by the nominee should be a copy of the completed SBEA Nomination Form.  If the nomination is a 2015 nomination, the first page should be a copy of the letter received from the SBEA Leadership Awards Administrative Committee Chairman.
  2. The second pageof the materials submitted by the nominee should be one page entitled BIOGRAPHICAL DATA OF NOMINEE with most recent activities listed for the following categories:
  • DEGREES (List degrees, institutions, and years attended.)
  • ADMINISTRATIVE/TEACHING EXPERIENCE (Give years of experience in business education teaching, administration, or supervision.)
  • PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS
  • HONORS AND AWARDS
  •  PUBLICATIONS
  1. The remaining pages should contain the responses to the criteria.  Each response must not exceed one page, one side only.  Each criterion statement should be typed at the top of a separate sheet of paper before beginning the response.  A 10-point or larger font is required.
  2. A maximum of five (5) supporting letters, each limited to one page, may accompany these nomination materials.  Standard size 8½“ x 11” paper or letterhead is required, and only one side of each page may be used.  The maximum of five supporting letters should be attached after the criterion statements.  NO ADDITIONAL PAGES OR MATERIAL SHOULD BE INCLUDED.
  3. FIVE COPIES of these nomination materials must be postmarked by July 1, 2016 to

  1. DEGREES…list degrees, institutions, and years attended
  2. ADMINISTRATIVE/TEACHING EXPERIENCE…Give years of experience in business education administration of supervision.

CRITERIA FOR COLLEGIATE (SENIOR COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY) EDUCATOR (AWARD III)

Please type each criterion at the top of a separate sheet of paper.  Each response must not exceed one page, one side only.  A 10-point or larger font is required.

  1. Contributions to business education through teaching.  Include information about classroom teaching performance, years of experience, and subject areas taught; give evidence of effectiveness (student, peer, and administrative evaluations).  Supporting documentation from students, administrators, and/or professional colleagues is essential to this criterion.  (Maximum points–50)
  2. Participation and office held in local, state, regional, and national professional associations.  Special activities that resulted in needed changes or improvements in the profession. (Maximum points–20)
  3. Involvement in other activities such as departmental responsibilities, serving on committees, and working with student organizations. (Maximum points–15)
  4. Contribution to business education through major articles, refereed publications, non-refereed publications, and research activities (including grant proposals).  Describe the significance of such activities of the profession.  List–do not include copies–of articles, monographs, books, etc., published by the nominee. (Maximum points–10)
  5. Contributions to business education through religious, civic government, cultural, private business organizations. (Maximum points–5)
