NOMINATION GUIDELINES FOR AWARD V—OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AWARD

ELIGIBILITY

The recipient must be a current member of NBEA/SBEA and have been a member for a minimum of five years; must be a member of the respective business education state association; and must be currently engaged in business education as a classroom teacher, administrator, and/or supervisor at the secondary, postsecondary (two-year), collegiate (senior college or university), or administration/supervision level.  The recipient’s contributions may have been made over an extended period of time; however, the major impact must have occurred within three years prior to the nomination.  The recipient’s contributions must exhibit leadership in business education and SBEA.


NOMINATION GUIDELINES

Nominations may be made by an NBEA/SBEA member or by the Executive Boards of NBEA-affiliated regional, state, or local associations.  Nominations must be on the SBEA Nomination Form.  The SBEA Nomination Form is to be sent to the chairman of the SBEA Leadership Awards Administrative Committee.  The chairman will send the SBEA Nomination Form and guidelines to the nominee.  Each nominee will submit the materials detailed below to the chairman of the SBEA Leadership Awards Administrative Committee.

 

1.    The first page of the materials submitted by the nominee should be a copy of the completed SBEA Nomination Form.  If the nomination is a 2014 nomination, the first page should be a copy of the letter received from the SBEA Leadership Awards Administrative Committee Chairman.

 

2.    The second page of the materials submitted by the nominee should be one page entitled BIOGRAPHICAL DATA OF NOMINEE with most recent activities listed for the following categories:

·         DEGREES (List degrees, institutions, and years attended.)

·         ADMINISTRATIVE/TEACHING EXPERIENCE (Give years of experience in business education teaching, administration, or supervision.)

·         PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS

·         HONORS AND AWARDS

·         PUBLICATIONS

 

3.    The remaining pages should contain the responses to the criteria.  Each response must not exceed one page, one side only.  Each criterion statement should be typed at the top of a separate sheet of paper before beginning the response.  A 10-point or larger font is required.

 

4.    A maximum of five (5) supporting letters, each limited to one page, may accompany these nomination materials.  Standard size 8½“ x 11” paper or letterhead is required, and only one side of each page may be used.  The maximum of five supporting letters should be attached after the criterion statements.  NO ADDITIONAL PAGES OR MATERIAL SHOULD BE INCLUDED.

 

5.    FIVE COPIES of these nomination materials must be postmarked by June 30,2015 to

 CRITERIA FOR OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP (AWARD V)

 

Please type each criterion at the top of a separate sheet of paper.  Each response must not exceed one page, one side only.  A 10-point or larger font is required.

 

 1.        Contributions made through local, state, regional, and national business education’s related professional associations, including committee memberships, committees’ chaired, offices held, and other activities resulting in the improvement of the profession. (Maximum points–50)

 

 2.        Contributions made to business education through the writing of major articles, publications, curriculum development, and research activities.  Describe the significance of such activities on the profession.  (List–but do not include copies of articles, monographs, books, etc. published by the nominee) (Maximum points–10)

 

 3.        Contributions made to business education through participation in civic, government, cultural, and private business organizations. (Maximum points–05)

 

 4.        Development and/or support of education programs that provide unusual opportunities for business education students to benefit from interrelationships with the business community.  Evidence of involvement in other programs that demonstrate unusual commitment to students and/or teachers through personal or staff contacts, activities, and ongoing support. (Maximum points–10)

 

 5.        Involvement in other activities such as administrative responsibilities and working with student organizations. (Maximum points–05)

 

 6.        Contributions to business education through public persuasiveness and/or support of state or federal legislation designed to advance the purposes of business education. (Maximum points–10)

 

 7.        Demonstration of unusual efforts to inform citizens in a state of the achievement of and a need for business education programs. (Maximum points–10)
